Coming off a huge win at Tahoma Sept. 11, the Lady Highlanders faced Kent-Meridian Sept. 13 with a chance to pick
up three valuable points in the league standings. Mission accomplished.
Hazen got three goals from senior Madison “Nails” Taylor and one each from sophomore Nyssa Lee, senior
Madison Kem, junior Taylor Marks and sophomore Simone Watson.
Taylor also had three assists, Kem had two, and sophomore Madison Kingett, Lee and
junior Kaitlyn De Boldt had one assist each.
Hazen’s back line got its second shutout in a row, dropping its goals against average to 0.75.
“This week I think we got three points people expected and three that might have surprised a few folks in the league,” said Hazen coach Ken Matthews. “We can set ourselves up nicely if we keep that going.”
Madison Taylor was named Woman of the Match.
Hazen JV also got a shutout win against Kent-Meridian 6-0, also its second in a row. Goals came from Anna
Anderson (2), Amanda De Boldt, Avery Pruitt, Evelyn Raih and Lexi Rorie. Assists were from Makayla Visick, Aiden
Pruitt (2) and Avery Pruitt (2).
Laurel Davis was named Woman of the Match for Hazen JV.
The Highlanders travel to Covington tonight, Monday, Sept. 17 for a 7:30 p.m. start time against the Kentwood Conquerors.
Entering tonight’s game Kentwood is currently 1-0-2 overall and 1-0-1 in league play.
