The High School football season got under way this past weekend with Lindbergh, Liberty and Hazen picking up wins in their first games of the year.
The Eagles got things rolling on Thursday, roughing up the Ecole Mission B.C. team, from Canada, by a score of 49-6.
No statistics were available.
Lindbergh plays at White River at 7 p.m. Friday.
On Friday, Hazen and Renton opened their seasons against each other with the Highlanders coming out on top 37-24, according to reports.
According to reports, Hazen scored first on a blocked kick run back 20 yards for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead by senior Joe Tryon. Renton tied the game on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Royal Dotson-Goode to Keyhlin Majors, but the Highlanders returned the kickoff 78-yards for a 12-6 first quarter lead.
Hazen scored again in the second quarter on an 8-yard touchdown pass from cameron Escott to Auustin Wales. Then, Tryon picked off a pass from Dotson-Goode and returned it 10 yards for another touchdown.
Dotson-Goode got Renton going again with a 5-yard touchdown run, but before the half was out, Escott threw a 20-yard pass to Tryon for his third TD of the game and a 31-14 halftime lead.
Renton came out fighting in the second half, with Dotson-Goode running in his second TD of the game to cut Hazen’s lead to 31-20 as the final frame began.
Dotson-Goode then tossed a 40-yard TD pass to Oscar Gutierrez to open scoring in the Fourth and bring the Indians to within 5 points of Hazen, 31-26.
But the Highlanders snuffed out the rally with a 2-yard touchdown run by Lovell Pualani to go ahead again 37-26 and hung on to win.
Hazen will host Rainier Beach at 7 p.m. Friday at Renton Memorial Stadium. Renton travels to Clover Park on Friday.
The Liberty Patriots also opened their 2016 campaign with a 42-7 win over Cedarcrest. No statistics were available.
Liberty hosts Mercer Island at 7 p.m. Friday.
