Hazen’s Airashay Rogers signed her Letter of Intent to play basketball at the University of Washington Monday.

Rogers, a senior, was an all-Seamount League first team member last season and led the league scoring at 26 points per game. She was second in the league in blocks and steals.

Rogers said she’s always been interested in joining the Huskies, and it made for a natural fit when they started recruiting her around the end of her junior season.

Even with her college choice locked in, Rogers is still completely focused on the Highlanders’ upcoming season.

“It’s not going to be anything easy,” she said. “I still have to focus on my high school season before I go past it. Nothing has changed, I’m just moving on next year.”

Rogers has been standout from the moment she started playing at Hazen. As a freshman, Rogers led Hazen to state for the first time since 1991.

She led the team in scoring that year at 19.3 points per game. As a sophomore she again led the team with 18.3 points per game. Rogers has been among the team leaders in rebounds and steals every season, as well as leading the team in assists all of her seasons.

The Highlanders kick off their season Nov. 29 against Ingraham at home at 7 p.m.
