The Hazen Highlander boys tennis team remains undefeated and at the top of the standings after a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Liberty on Wednesday.
In singles competition, Hazen first singles player Gregg Furumasu had no trouble with Keaten Winegar, winning 6-1, 6-0. In second singles, Bruno Hernendez-Sotres bested Naoki Lucas 6-2, 6-1 and in third singles, Marcus Lee beat VChristian Wong 6-0, 6-0.
Only Avelyino Vargas ran into trouble, falling 0-6, 1-6 to Liberty’s Devin Anderson in the fourth singles matchup.
It was a little tougher on the doubles courts for the Highlanders though.
The first team of Sonlam Nguyen and Justin Nguyen dropped their match to Marek Pierpiekarz 1-6, 5-7 and the third doubles pairing of Alex Kang and Jordan Fu fell 4-6, 206 6o Liberty’s Cody Hughes and Ethan Le. Hazen’s only doubles victory came in the second match-up as the team of Andre Noinala and Andrew Hwang topped Ben Tran and Josh Ryker 6-4, 6-3.
Hazen is now 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the Seamount League. They are schedule to take on Foster on Friday at Hazen.
