The Hazen Highlander soccer team bested Lindbergh 2-0 on Thursday night to get back on the winning track after playing Kennedy to a draw last week.
Hazen got on the board early in the first half when in the fifth minute, a hard shot by forward Taylor Lenton was misplayed by a Lindbergh defender and found its way into the net.
The score stayed 1-0 until 15 minutes into the second half when Amy Warmenhoven beat her defender to the corner and made a pass to Lenton, who put it in the net for the insurance goal.
For the game, Hazen outshot Lindbergh 16-5, but Coach Ken Matthews said Lindbergh’s defense played strong and essentially shut them out in the first half.
The Hazen team on Thursday also paid tribute to Evergreen football player Kenny Bui, who died Monday following an injury in last week’s game at Highline.
“Hazen soccer has a tradition of writing initials on their hands to honor people we know,” Matthews said. “We have a long and good sportsmanship association with Evergreen soccer. The girls thought it would be appropriate to have ‘KB’ on their left hands to continue that relationship tonight. I couldn’t agree more.”
Hazen improves to 5-3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Seamount. They play Evergreen Tuesday at Renton Memorial Stadium.
