The Hazen boys tennis season got off to a strong start with a 4-3 win Wednesday over Lindbergh and on Thursday as the Highlanders bested Mount Si 6-1 in a non-league match-up.
In first singles on Thursday against Mt. Si, David Vaiser won 6-3, 6-4, while third singles player Dylan Kittay won 7-5, 6-3 and fourth singles player Sohil Shah won 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles play, the team of Justin Nguyen and SonLam Nguyen won 6-2, 6-0 and the second doubles team of Tyler Holm and Alan Li battled through a second set loss to win 6-1, 3-6, 10-6.
According to Coach Gail Ellis, the third doubles team of Will Thordason and Logan Richard fell to a 2-5 deficit in the first set, but were able to turn it around and win the set and match 7-5, 6-3.
The only match lost by the Highlanders was a three-hour marathon, according Ellis, that saw second singles player Nathan Nagel fall 6-3, 6-7(7-3), 4-6.
Hazen is now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the Seamount League. They are scheduled to play Foster on Monday.
