The Hazen Highlander volleyball team got things started on the right track this week with a 3-1 opening match win over Newport on Tuesday.

Led by Alicia Nguyen’s 14 kills, two aces and 14 digs and Kayla Swain’s 21 assists, the Highlanders battled to a 27-25 victory in the first game, a 25-20 win in the second and a 25-22 win in the third game.

Anna McCallum added seven kills, two blocks and eight digs while Olivia Chapman had six aces and 11 digs and an assist of her own in the win. Kassie Thomazin also added five kills and four blocks for Hazen.

The Highlanders are now 1-0 on the year and next play at the Renton Invitational on Saturday at Renton High School.
