The Liberty track and field teams got off to a great start, beating Lake Washington Thursday.
The boys team won 82-57 and the girls team won 108-39.
Junior Josh Gordon led the way for the Patriots. Gordon won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.8 seconds. That broke the oldest standing Liberty record (1980). Gordon also won the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 4.5 inches, which broke the school record he set last season. Gordon’s distance currently leads the state. Gordon also won the high jump with a height of six feet, three inches.
Senior Devin Bennett won the 200 and the discus. Sophomore Hiron Redmon won the 800. Junior Tyler Westenbroek won the 1,600. Senior Scott Turner won the 3,200.
Sophomore Kevin Ahrens won the shot put. Junior Trevor Merritt won the javelin. Junior Chase Kenney won the pole vault.
On the girls side, Liberty won every event except the 300-meter hurdles and the pole vault.
Winners on the girls side: Madison Birdsall (100), Elizabeth Ryker (200), Aimee Christensen (400), Michaela Chucka (800), Megan Chucka (1,600), Rachel Shaw (3,200), Emily Pestl-Dimmitt (100-meter hurdles and javelin), Alexis McGinnis (shot put and discus), Delane Agnew (high jump) and Ida Bakke (long jump and triple jump).
