Liberty 28, Mercer Island 11
Liberty pulled away late and beat Mercer Island 28-11 Friday.
The Patriots (5-2 overall, 4-1 KingCo 3A/2A) led 14-11 before scoring 14 more points in the fourth quarter.
Chandler Jenkins did most of the heavy lifting on offense with four rushing scores for the Patriots. Jenkins has nine touchdowns (seven rushing, two receiving) in the past two games alone.
Liberty plays Interlake next Friday night.
Renton 44, Evergreen 16
Renton flexed its muscle Friday with a 44-16 win against Evergreen.
For Renton (2-5, 2-3 Seamount) it was the first non-forfeit win on the season and it came in fairly convincing fashion. The Indians built a 26-0 lead in the third quarter before Evergreen got on the board.
Quarterback Zane Brown threw for three touchdowns, two to Justin Bennett. Brown and Bennett connected from 57 and 69 yards. Bennett now has seven touchdown receptions on the season. Zane also found P.J. Benedictus for a 30-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
Robert Reeves had a big game with two rushing scores. Reeves also returned a late kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, the fifth kickoff Renton has returned for a touchdown this season (the other four were by Marcus Clinton).
Renton faces Foster (Oct. 22) and Hazen (Oct. 29) to end the regular season. The Indians are tied with Highline for fifth place in the Seamount.
Hazen 34, Foster 28
A wild, back-and-forth game finally came to an end when Hazen beat Foster 34-28 in overtime Friday.
The Highlanders (5-2, 3-2 Seamount) have won three straight league games and continued their ground dominance in the latest contest. Hazen outrushed the Bulldogs 365-97.
Isaiah Talley led Hazen with 157 yards and two touchdowns on 12 rushes. It was his 23-yard rushing score that sealed the win for Hazen in overtime. Cody Taylor rushed seven times for 77 yards and a touchdown. Keith Carlson rushed 14 times for 67 yards and a touchdown.
Highlander quarterback Travis Johnson completed nine of 12 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown.
Hazen fell behind 7-0 in the first quarter, but scored 14 unanswered points to take a 14-7 lead at the half. Foster quarterback Aaron Rodriguez led his team back as he accounted for all three of his team’s second half touchdowns (two passing, one rushing).
The Highlanders outlasted Foster in overtime and won on Talley’s rushing touchdown.
