The Liberty Patriots scored in the final three minutes to top the Hazen Highlander soccer team 1-0 Friday in a non-league match-up at Liberty.
Hazen had 15 shots on goal during the game but could not find the net. Hazen keepers Kaitlyn Kitely and Alyssa Gummere combined for 13 saves in the losing effort.
Coach Ken Matthews said he was proud of how his team played.
“Three years ago we got annihilated by them, last year we played defensively and got a lot closer,” he said in an email. “This year we went toe-to-toe with them and I though we had a shot.”
Hazen is now 1-1 on the year. They travel to Tahoma on Tuesday.
Liberty is 1-0-1 and travels to Mercer Island on Tuesday.
