Liberty softball rallies to beat Sammamish

Sammamish got on the board first with a run in the first inning and a second run in fourth, but Liberty rallied back to tie it with two runs of their own in the top of the sixth. But it was the final frame where most of the action happened.

The Liberty softball team improved to 11-4 overall on Wednesday with a 6-5 comeback win over Sammamish at Sammamish.

Sammamish got on the board first with a run in the first inning and a second run in fourth, but Liberty rallied back to tie it with two runs of their own in the top of the sixth.

But it was the final frame where most of the action happened.

With the game tied at 2, Liberty pushed four 4 runs across the plate in the top half of the inning to take a 6-2 lead. But Sammamish would not go down without a fight, sparking their own rally and plating 3 runs of their own before Liberty pitcher Sydney Hopper was able to get the final out and the win.

Hopper pitched all 7 innings and gave up 5 runs, 4 earned, on 9 hits. She threw 7 strikeouts and did not walk a single batter.

Hopper also helped her own cause by going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Maddy O’Connor provided some serious offense with her bat too, going 2-for-4 at the plate and driving in 3 RBI.
