Liberty teams can’t stick with Mercer Island | Basketball

The Liberty girls basketball team lost its second straight game 60-55 to Mercer Island Wednesday.

For the Patriots (11-6 overall, 7-4 KingCo 3A/2A) it is just the second multiple-game losing streak this season. Liberty is now tied with Lake Washington for third place in the KingCo.

The Islanders carried an 11-point lead into the fourth quarter. Liberty made a late run, outscoring Mercer Island 16-10 in that final period, but couldn’t come all the way back.

Aspen Winegar scored 17 to lead Liberty. Halie Ericksen and Danni Sjolander each scored eight points.

Liberty has three games left in the regular season, Jan. 28 against Interlake, Feb. 1 against Lake Washington and Feb. 3 at Mount Si.

Mercer Island 68, Liberty 42

Liberty couldn’t stay with Mercer Island and fell to Mercer Island 68-42 Wednesday.

The Patriots (5-11, 3-8) sit in sixth place in the KingCo, three games behind Sammamish in fifth.

Chandler Jenkins scored 11 points to lead Liberty. Robbie Thomas added eight.
