The Liberty softball team started the 3A state tournament with a bang, beating Enumclaw 15-5, but couldn’t keep the offense going. All three of Liberty’s state tournament games were on May 23 at the SERA Fields in Tacoma.
The Patriots ran into Everett in the second round and lost 8-0. Valerie Shahl got Everett on the board with a grand slam in the second inning. Alexandra Hudson hit two home runs.
Cory Mattson pitched a strong game for Everett and Liberty managed just four hits.
Later that evening, Liberty fell again to Bainbridge 11-0. The loss knocked the Patriots out of tournament.
The game remained close through three innings, with Bainbridge leading 1-0. But the Spartans scored four runs in the fourth, then six runs in the fifth. Lindsay Willman pitched the complete game for Bainbridge and allowed just one hit, while striking out seven. Willman also had three RBIs at the plate.
The victory was the 15th state-tournament win for Liberty during the team’s current 12-year run of state tournament appearances.
