Lindbergh takes second at districts, sends 10 to state | Swim & dive

Last season was a tough one for the Lindbergh boys swim and dive team.

Low on numbers, the team finished 1-6 in league competition and didn’t have any swimmers make finals at districts.

“It was a rough year for us,” said Lindbergh coach Roger Miron. “You have ebbs and flows. Some years you have a lot of kids and some years you don’t.”

One year later, the program’s fate has flipped 180 degrees.

The Eagles finished second at the West Central District 2A meet Feb. 12 and advanced 10 swimmers to state.

“It’s the first time I’ve received any hardware at a district meet,” said Miron, who has been coaching at Lindbergh for 16 years. “It’s safe to say this was my best district team every… It was just an all-around great performance.”

Freshman Andrew Franco-Munoz continued his excellent season with a district title in the 50-yard freestyle. Franco-Munoz swam a time of 22.93 seconds, good for the district meet record.

Franco-Munoz also took fourth in the 100 free.

Lindbergh’s team of A.J. Lim, Mitchell Wang, Aaron Jacobsen and Connor Guhlke placed third in the 200 medley relay.

Guhlke took fifth in the 200 free and Joey Hatch placed fifth in the one-meter dive competition. Guhlke placed fourth in the 500 free.

Lim finished third in the 200 individual medley and third in the 100 butterfly.

Lindbergh’s team of Zach Holm, Jacobsen, Guhlke and Franco-Munoz took second in the 200 free relay.

Sam Seid finished sixth in the 100 backstroke. Lindbergh (Holm, Seid, Lim and Franco-Munoz) took fifth in the 400 free relay.
