Patriots get closer to first state berth since 2000 with win against Bishop Blanchet | Girls basketball

The Liberty girls basketball team can lock up its first state berth since 2000 with a win against Lakeside in the district playoffs tomorrow.

The Patriots (16-8) beat Bishop Blanchet 41-30 in the first round of districts Feb. 12. Liberty outscored Blanchet 12-5 in the first quarter and held unto the lead through the game.

Halie Ericksen and Aspen Winegar each scored 11 to lead the Patriots.

The game against Lakeside (14-8) is Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Chief Sealth. The game is winner-to-state, but the loser will still have a chance to get to state. That team will play the loser of Juanita/Holy Names in the next round of the consolation bracket.
