The Renton Indians girls basketball team on Tuesday kept their postseason hopes alive with a 58-48 win over the Lindbergh Eagles in a loser-out third-round game of the district tournament.
Renton’s Sean Benning led all scorers with 28 points in the victory. Lindbergh’s Serene Simms was the top scorer for the Eagles with 16 in the losing effort.
Renton got out early, racking up a 14-4 lead after the first period. The Indians kept pushing through the second and headed into the half up 29-12.
But Lindbergh would not go away easy, rallying for 19-9 third period to pull within 7 of Indians, but Renton responded by winning the fourth quarter and the game.
Lindbergh ends the year with a 12-11 overall record.
The win moves Renton into a loser-out with River Ridge, who beat Fife on Tuesday. The two teams square off at 7:45 p.m. Thurdsay. The winner is guaranteed a spot in the regional tournament.
