It’s all about focus for the Renton girls basketball team.
The Indians have plenty of talent, speed and experience. In order to make those ingredients into a successful product on the floor, the team just needs to work on the things it can control.
“We just have to focus on us,” said Renton coach Tim White. “If we do what we do, then we’ll be fine.”
Senior guard Taylor Williams is a state-level track athlete and is averaging 17.5 points per game so far this year – tops on the team.
Smallish (5-foot-4) and fast, she embodies Renton’s team this season.
“We have a quick team, kind of small though,” Williams said. “So we try to press as much as we can. It definitely puts a lot of pressure on them. They get a little rattled and it throws them off.”
Renton’s goal is to simply play at a faster pace than other teams can, wearing them out and confusing them.
Other key players are: Addyson Stowers, Jessica Isabell and Amanda Rogers. Those three will be key to Renton controlling the inside game. Stowers is averaging 8.8 points per game, Rogers 8.3.
Senior guard Kelsey Sparks might be the team’s most athletic player. She teams with Williams to give Renton a dynamic backcourt.
The Indians have seven seniors on the roster. White said one of the team’s biggest goals is to get some of those seniors a chance to play beyond high school, following the path of Christina Hay and Canisha Calcote from last season’s team.
