The district has changed its mind about creating a cooperative swim program between Renton and Lindbergh, according to Renton School District spokesman Randy Matheson.
“After additional meetings with the district’s swim coaches, pool managers and input from community budget meetings, the district has reconsidered the ‘cooperative’ swim program,” Matheson said in an e-mail.
Matheson said the coaches and pool managers felt the cooperative program would create scheduling and other issues.
The final decisions are: Each school will continue to have their own swim program, Renton will still hold practices and meets at the Hazen pool, and each team will have their own head coach.
The district ended all of the coaching positions at the three schools in May out of fairness, so all three positions are currently open. Under the earlier cooperative plan, the positions would be reduced because the same coaching staff would coach Lindbergh and Renton.
