The Seahawks topped the San Diego Chargers 24-17 in the preseason opener Thursday evening. But the game’s biggest news was the injury of Seattle left tackle Russell Okung.

Okung injured his left ankle in the first few plays of the game. Okung missed two preseason games and three regular season games with separate ankle injuries in 2010.

Seattle trailed 17-10 heading into the fourth quarter, but scored 14 points in the final four minutes, two seconds to take the lead.

Starting quarterback played sparingly and completed three of five passes for 13 yards. The Chargers also sacked him twice.Charlie Whitehurst completed 14 of 20 passes for 115 yards. Josh Portis completed five of nine passes for 69 yards and a touchdown.

Running back Thomas Clayton rushed 16 times for 62 yards and a touchdown. Leon Washington also scored a rushing touchdown. Marshawn Lynch rushed three times for eight yards.

Dominique Byrd caught two passes for 52 yards. Doug Baldwin caught four passes for 29 yards.

Okung was taken from the bench off the field in a cart, but x-rays did not detect a fracture.Tyler Polumbus replaced Okung.
