The Hazen soccer team needed to rebound against Tyee and Evergreen, and the Highlanders did just that.
After losing three league games in a row to the Seamount’s top three teams from Sept. 22 to Oct. 1, Hazen (5-4 overall, 5-3 Seamount) has outscored Tyee and Evergreen by a combined 21-0 the past two games.
“I call the schedule that has us up against Lindbergh, Mount Rainier, and Kennedy one after the other our death march. We were cruising along okay up until then. We got smacked around pretty good by those three teams – obviously we aren’t quite ready to compete at that level,” said Hazen coach Ken Matthews.
There were positive signs during the run though: In a 9-1 loss to Kennedy Catholic, Hazen became the only league opponent to score against the Lancers this season.
Against a rebuilding Tyee program, Hazen cruised. Scoring summary:

“We’ve been working through and on some things these last few weeks. It is hard to tell just how much we’ve improved just yet. That’ll come Friday night,” Matthews said.
Hazen plays Highline at 4 p.m. at Highline Stadium. Hazen stands in fifth place in the Seamount, while Highline is fourth.

Lindbergh won a key, 1-0 game against Highline Tuesday.
The Eagles (6-2-1, 6-2-1) took over third place in the Seamount with the win.
Jami Kouba scored the game’s lone goal on an assist by Nicole Burnette. Audrey Cunningham earned the shutout in goal.
Foster 1, Renton
Foster shutout Renton Tuesday for the 1-0 win.
The Indians (2-7, 2-7) are now in seventh place in the Seamount.
