Cascade Vista Athletic Club has re-instated girls’ softball beginning this fall, after a two year absence. Last month the CVAC board was approached by Derrek Prellwitz, a father of three softball players who travels from 30 to 90 minutes for practice or away games.
Prellwitz was appointed as the Softball Commissioner to oversee the program which reports directly to the CVAC Board of Directors.
“It’s important for the area to have a youth softball program that feeds into the high schools,” said Dave Nelson, CVAC Public Relations Manager. “The Renton area high schools who have established youth programs are more successful than those that don’t. Its important for CVAC to bring this needed sports back to the region and open it up to more than just south Renton, but all of Renton.”
The lack of softball players forced CVAC to disband the program, along with other softball programs such as Renton Little League, Maple Valley Pony and Newcastle Pony. C-Team sports within the Renton School District were eliminated due to budget cuts in 2009 and Lindbergh’s softball squad only had a varsity team.
Registration is currently softball program in the fall is currently open at www.cvac.org.
Girls ages 5-8 will participate in the Shetland or Pinto Baseball division and transfer to the softball program at age 9, if they choose.
