The 2023 Spring Sports season is upon us. Here is a preview of what each school did last season!
Baseball
Hazen Highlanders
The Highlanders ended the season with an 8-13-1 record during the regular season. With the setup of the KingCo league 3A postseason, there was no district tournament. Instead, there was a single elimination league tournament. Hazen matched up with Liberty and lost their opening-round match-up 4-1.
Liberty Patriots
Liberty baseball went 10-9 in the regular season last year. In the postseason Liberty made it to the league championship game against Lake Washington which they ended up losing by a single run 3-2. In the winner-to-state game, Liberty lost to Mercer Island 4-0.
Lindbergh Eagles
The 2022 year was an up-and-down season for Lindbergh. They got off to a slow start but won three out of four in late March and early April. By the end of the season, the Eagles got to the first round of the district tournament. Lindbergh fell to Orting by a score of 8-4.
Renton Redhawks
Renton had a brutal start to the season this past season they lost seven out of their first nine games. The Redhawks finished the season 4-11, but they did make the district tournament as the final seed. The one game they played was against Bremerton and Renton was sent home in the first round.
Softball
Hazen Highlanders
Hazen had a roller-coaster season on the diamond last year. The Highlanders’ record was 5-11-1 last season. On top of the back and fourth season, Hazen also had nine canceled games last season. In the KingCo tournament, Hazen faced Bellevue High School and lost in the opening round.
Liberty Patriots
Liberty softball had a very strong season going 11-6-1. The Patriots had a very strong middle of the season going on two four-game win streaks at the beginning of April and the end of April. In the postseason the Patriots placed third in the KingCo and advanced to districts. Liberty softball went 2-2 during the district tournament and came up one game short of the state tournament.
Lindbergh Eagles
Lindbergh was 5-8 last season and had a really tough end of the season. Going up until the end of April Lindbergh was playing good softball, winning five of eight. But from April 22- May 9, they lost four games in a row. The last of which was a playoff game ending their season.
Renton Redhawks
It was a season to forget for Redhawk softball. The Renton squad was winless in the 2022 season. The last win the Redhawks had was back on April 25 during the 2019 season against Foster High School. Last year was the first year Renton had played any softball since that ‘19 season and they look to win their first game this season in four years.
Soccer
Hazen Highlanders
The Highlander boys soccer team had one of the most incredible turnarounds in the state of Washington last season. In the 2021 season Hazen won just a single game, in 2022 Hazen went 13-3-3. Winning 12 more games in a consecutive season is an incredible feat to accomplish. Hazen also added a state quarterfinal appearance, a truly incredible season.
Lindbergh Eagles
Lindbergh had an unfortunate start to the season, only winning two of their first nine games. But after April 15 the Eagles got rolling, ending that stretch of nine games with a record of 6-2-1. Lindbergh qualified for the district tournament as the very last seed of the tournament. As the 16 seed, Lindbergh upset the 10th-seeded Steilacoom Sentinels but fell to White River in the second round.
Liberty Patriots
The Patriots got off to an incredible start to the season last year, winning the first seven games in a row. At the end of the regular season Liberty hit a rough patch, the Patriots lost three in a row going into the postseason. Liberty’s season ended in the first round of the KingCo tournament, one round shy of a state qualifying game.
Renton Redhawks
The Redhawks went 5-5 last year in the regular season. The record got the Redhawks into the first round of the district tournament as a 12 seed. After a win over Enumclaw, Renton faced Bremerton in the second round and lost 2-1.
