The Seahawks fell to the Rams 20-3 Sunday. Here are some thoughts from the game and the young 2010 season.
The pass protection isn’t working
Rookie left tackle played in his first regular-season game and lasted almost a half before ankle soreness knocked him out. Hopefully the pass protection will improve once he gets (fully) healthy and more experienced, but right now it just isn’t working.
QB Matt Hasselbeck has been sacked nine times through four games. For reference, even with 2009’s cavalcade of O-line injuries, Hasselbeck went down seven times through his first four games.
Thomas impressing early
Rookie safety Earl Thomas followed up his two-interception performance in Week 3 with another pick against the Rams Sunday. The Seahawks single-season interception record is 10, achieved by John Harris (1981) and Kenny Easley (1984).
Rock solid Mare
Seahawks kicker Olindo Mare made a 22-yard field goal Sunday, no huge accomplishment for an NFL kicker. The bigger deal is that he’s now made 24 straight field goals going back to last season.
The last time Mare missed a field goal was Sept. 3 in a Week 3 game against Chicago.
Mike Vanderjagt holds the NFL record for consecutive field goals made with 42 from 2002-2004.
Mare has made 91.2 percent of his field goal attempts with the Seahawks, which is the best in franchise history.
Forsett taking lead
Seattle split the carries among running backs evenly between Justin Forsett (seven), Julius Jones (eight) and Leon Washington (six) in Week 1. Since then the lead has shifted heavily towards Forsett and Sunday no other back got more than one carry, while Forsett got 19.
Forsett’s 36 carries over the past two weeks are the most over any two-game span of his career. His high for one game is 22 in Week 12 of last season. He totaled 130 yards and two touchdowns in that game.
Forsett leads the team in carries and yards, but it’s still Hasselbeck that has the team’s only two rushing scores.
